Bi-Cultural Institute
The Bicultural Institute was founded in the fall of 2000 to help graduate interns of color bring their full and authentic cultural selves to the workplace. It was also meant to be a supportive and affirming forum to explore professional bi-cultural issues with other interns of color, as well as to meet and gain guidance from JBFCS senior staff members of color. Some topics that have been covered in the past and remain important discussion topics at the Institute’s monthly meeting are incorporating bicultural and bilingual skills into clinical work, negotiating cultural differences with supervisors, and working in workplaces as the only person of color. Over the years, our interns have had the chance to develop their professional and unique identities, learn how to separate personal issues from their professional work, and work towards their goals, all within a supportive environment.
If you are a current intern of color, please join us for our next meeting. If you supervise someone who is currently an intern of color, please encourage them to attend meetings!
