The Real Work: Summer in the City

September 19, 2012

Quite a day at the American Museum of Natural History

Summer is often a time of special outings and activities—and for a group of girls from our Ittleson residence—this summer was no exception!

Karim Lopez, a member of the Children & Adolescents in Residence Divisional Board, committed herself to taking girls from Ittleson out to special events throughout the city this summer. In June, they explored the Bronx Zoo. In July, a trip to the American Museum of Natural History. And in August, a day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. For September, Karim is planning two trips—one to MOMA for some hands on learning and another to the Sony Wonder Technology Lab.

Karim, who works at Morgan Stanley, is involved in many different causes and organizations. She is also an accomplished marathon runner. And, she has just as much fun on each outing as the girls do!

For our kids, each outing is an opportunity to do something fun and different. It's also an opportunity to do something educational that doesn't involve sitting at a desk. But most importantly, each outing shows that there are dependable adults out there who care. A day out provides small group, one-on-one time with a positive adult role model.
