Big Brother Big Sister Programs

JBFCS' Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS) programs match adult volunteers with children from single-parent or special needs homes. The one-to-one relationship helps a child gain trust, love, consistency, communications skills, and more. JBFCS offers two ways to get involved.

  • Through the In-Treatment BBBS programs, adults are matched with a same-sex child receiving therapeutic treatment at one of our clinics or living in one of our residences. “Bigs” are important additions to the therapeutic process and can help “Littles” who’ve suffered such trauma in their short lives overcome and gain a firm footing in life. In the Bronx and Westchester, we offer an on-site program where adults visit with children who live at a JBFCS residential facility.
  • The Jewish Big Brother Big Sister (JBBBS) program serves Jewish children who may not be receiving treatment from us but who still need an additional adult in their lives to offer stability, friendship, consistency, and more. Click here for a brochure on how to get involved.

In both programs assignments are made so that “Bigs” and “Littles” share mutual interests and thus look forward to spending time together. Volunteers should be 21 years or older and must commit to one year of service, which should include spending two or more hours every other weekend with their matched child.
