Doula to Accompany and Comfort |
The nonsectarian Doula to Accompany and Comfort Program trains and supervises Doula volunteers who provide companionship and comfort for people whose life expectancy is 18 months or less. When approaching death, people often experience fear, loneliness, and isolation. Doula volunteers can minimize those feelings by providing comfort and compassionate companionship. Doulas visit in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or at home. Doulas receive phone support from staff and attend regular meetings where they share experiences and receive additional training. In addition to training volunteers, the Doula Program provides consultation to organizations interested in implementing a volunteer program for those at end of life.
Doulas serve all ethnicities and religious backgrounds.
